Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation
The pelvic floor is a key group of muscles that support the
bladder, bowel, and uterus. Issues with these muscles can lead to
discomfort, incontinence, and reduced quality of life. Our
rehabilitation program focuses on strengthening these muscles and
alleviating symptoms through targeted exercises and therapies.
So what can we do about it?
A common question I get is: do I have to have an internal examination?
What exactly does an internal examination entail:
1.
Examining the external genitalia (vulva/everything on the
outside)
2.
Observing your pelvic floor muscle contracting with and without
pressure
3.
An internal exam is done with one gloved and lubricated finger
(much smaller than a penis right?), to palpate the pelvic floor
muscles for myofascial trigger points, strength, endurance,
coordination and function when performing activities like
breathing, coughing, sneezing, squatting (yes you read that
right we have to check how these myscles are functioning in
lying and standing and when doing functional activities)
