Congratulations on your new arrival! The post-partum period is a time of significant change and adjustment, not just emotionally but physically as well (as you now very well know).

Understanding Post-Partum Care

Unfortunately it takes a long time for the body to recover, roughly 2 years. Small consistent progressions need to be made towards regaining core strength. By core I mean correct breathing patterns, your pelvic floor health and your abdominal health.

So What Exactly Do We Check?

Diastasis recti (ab separation)
Pelvic floor exam if indicated
Your caesarian scar or episiotomy scar if you had these performed
You core (breathing, pelvic floor and abdominal activation patterns)
Screen you for return to running (if that is your goal)
It’s important to understand where your body is at after birth so that you know how to manage going forward in a sustainable way.
